Excellence through Endeavour Meet Our Principal
Home About Our School At Our School School Information Newsletter

Welcome to Murrumbeena Primary School! We take pride in providing a comprehensive education which values the individual learning needs of students. At Murrumbeena we place utmost importance in developing each child's talents in a safe, caring and encouraging learning environment. As our motto, 'Excellence through Endeavour' suggests, the importance of trying one's best and 'having a go' is paramount. Every child's needs are different, and our teaching approaches vary in order to cater for differing learning styles, and to challenge each child at his or her own level.

We have a totally professional and dedicated teaching staff, with specialist teachers in the areas of Physical Education, Learning Technologies, Japanese, Art and Music. Our curriculum follows the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) where children learn through an integrated approach.

Excellent resources and facilities support our programs. An indoor heated swimming pool and large multi-purpose facility enhances our physical education program. The school has been recently involved in a capital works project which provided new facilities for Information and Communication Technologies, The Arts and Administration.

Upgraded classrooms feature withdrawal areas for small student groups, teacher workspace, meeting areas and wet areas. Classrooms are grouped wherever possible so that classes of the same level can learn in close physical proximity. With a major use of glass as a construction element, the emphasis is to produce light-filled learning spaces that flow into each other, where children can work in small groups and still have visual contact with other learners and the teacher. These developments have enabled the facilities to add value and credibility to the teaching and learning strategies that we focus on to teach children according to their needs.

We place a strong emphasis on the use of information and communication technologies as a tool for learning. All classrooms feature interactive whiteboards, networked computers and digital technologies. Laptop computers in senior classes also assist in our personalised learning program.

At Murrumbeena Primary School we value parental involvement and recognise that learning is an important partnership between home and school.

The staff, the Assistant Principal, Shirley Krongold, and myself, along with the School Council, are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the school. We appreciate your involvement.

Heather Hill
Principal

At Murrumbeena PS we believe the love of learning can be nurtured through positive, fun and supportive experiences. The learning experiences we provide foster knowledge, skills, values and attitudes students need for a life of continual learning.

We continue to live by a set of values where our students' social and emotional development and wellbeing is of the utmost importance.

One of my major roles is to oversee student wellbeing in partnership with staff, parents and the wider community. Student support is the whole school priority and I am more than willing to assist you with any inquiries or issues you wish to discuss.

Shirley Krongold
Assistant Principal
