Murrumbeena Primary School, with a student population of approximately 560, is located in the City of Glen Eira. Enrolment is drawn from the local residential community of Murrumbeena and surrounding suburbs of Carnegie, East Malvern, Hughesdale and Oakleigh.

Within the school, there is a low level of student mobility and a small number of non English speaking students, but as many as 24% second phase non English speaking background students.

The relatively high enrolment enables the staffing to include specialists in Sport and Physical Education, Art, Music, Learning Technologies and LOTE (Japanese).  A First Aid Officer is employed on a part time basis.

The school was first established in 1917 and developed in stages, with an Art Room added in 1970. Recent upgrades include:
- Provision of a Multi-Purpose Hall (with Out of School Hours Care and school canteen facilities).
- New senior adventure playground and two sand pits complete with shade covers.
- Off street car park.
- Upgrade to the school's swimming pool which has seen it become enclosed and heated.
- Installation of air conditioning in our main school building.
- Creation of an Information Resource Centre.
- Arts centre.
- Upgraded classrooms.

Murrumbeena Primary School is committed to meeting the individual needs of each student, and providing opportunities for all students to develop their special talents and abilities.  Emphasis is placed on provision of a positive, caring environment to foster confidence and self esteem.

The students are encouraged to interact co-operatively, and to accept an increasing responsibility for their own learning and their behaviour.

The school provides a comprehensive curriculum where children are encouraged to explore, inquire, discover, challenge and reflect.

Classroom programs are enhanced by specialist teachers in Art, Music, Physical Education, Japanese and Information and Communication Technology.

Professional development of staff is an integral part of our quality curriculum delivery and high standards in student learning outcomes. It also facilitates adoption of latest educational initiatives.

Our Strategic Plan focuses on developing skills to enable students to be capable and confident members of the 21st century global society.

The school has a very proactive School Council, and a feature of the school is the high level of parent participation in the support of curriculum programs and a range of social, fundraising and school improvement activities.
