Student Leadership
Effective schools build a culture where teachers and students work together, and where student voice, agency and leadership are understood as inter-related factors that contribute to the notion of empowerment and sense of school pride. (FISO)
Murrumbeena Primary School places a strong emphasis on the importance of supporting students in developing healthy self esteem, feeling safe and connected at school, and developing strong relationships with others. Leadership opportunities develop responsibility and respect for others. A range of programs and activities are in place for students to develop and practise their leadership skills.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
At the commencement of each year, the students in each class, from Year 1 to Year 6 vote 2 studnets in their class to be the SRC leaders. The SRC leaders are awarded a badge at an assembly which the parents are invited to attend.
Our SRC:
The SRC leaders, school captains and teacher representative meet fortnightly to discuss the needs of the school. The meetings are based on effective student empowerment.
Effective student empowerment builds on a culture that values and nurtures student voice, agency and leadership.
This goes beyond giving students the opportunity to communicate ideas and opinions; it empowers students to influence change in their school and their community.
Authentic student voice provides opportunities for students to collaborate and make decisions with adults about what and how they learn, and how their learning is assessed.
